Dressing Up Against Drugs

Monday: Use Your Head, Wear Red

Tuesday: Team Up Against Drugs, Alcohol, and Tobacco
(no photo, it was one crazy hectic day!) Most of the kiddos were in Razorback gear!

Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday (have you ever read that book? It's fantastic!)
They are backwards because their clothes were on backward...they are showing off the front of their shirts!
Wacky enough for ya?
Thursday: Join the Fight Against Drugs, Alcohol, and Tobacco

Friday: Don't Fall for Drugs (wear black and orange...school colors)
~no photo for this one...I stayed home with my daughters...the oldest had to take her driver's exam to get her permit, and they are only available for testing during school hours on Wednesdays and Fridays. Seriously...What are people supposed to do when they can't get away from their jobs to run their kids everywhere they have to be? Practices (for school functions, held immediately after school, but be sure to be there by 4:15 to get your kid...most people around here work til 5), hair appointments (always booked up for after school), driver's tests, monthly tightening of braces...it never ends!

Recess!

All kids love recess! Well, most do. I never did. I remember asking if I could stay in to help the teacher...filing papers, straightening books, cleaning the chalk boards, etc. Every now and again, one of my kinders will ask if he/she can stay in with me, but for the most part...

Even a broken arm can't slow this one down! :-)

Red Ribbon Week!

Today was the kick off for Red Ribbon Week (Just Say No to Drugs, Alcohol, and Tobacco)! It is always so fun during Red Ribbon Week because we have several different things going on. The event today was a visit from a retired police dog named Kenya. This old girl was a gentle giant with the kids as they got to love on her and get a police badge sticker for promising to be drug free.

Doesn't she look thrilled to be there with us???
The rest of the week will be full of silly dress up days. Today was "Use Your Head, Wear Red" (I didn't think these up...no clue where that one came from). We will also have Be a Team Player day, Wacky Wednesday, Fight against Drugs (camo) day, and Don't Fall for Drugs and Alcohol (wear fall colors) Friday. I will post pics at the end of the week of our coordinating outfits!

Fire Safety!

Friday was our annual fire safety program at school. We had a great time learning about how emergency responders are there to help and protect us...even though they might look a little scary when in uniform!

The fire department brought out all of the trucks, and all of the students were shown how to spray the fire hose!!!

Just Say No To

Yesterday, we attended a motivational program given by Ron Cole. He travels around the country putting on three shows a day, with about a ten to twelve hour break between states.

His shows consist of a lot of contemporary popular music, such as "Just the Way You Are" and "Party Rock Anthem." He also does a few originals. The theme of the show is that to have a good time and to be successful individuals that enjoy life, you don't have to do drugs or drink alcohol. Mr. Cole goes on to say that just because someone calls you names or says bad things about you, does not mean that they are right. He encourages students to ignore them. To believe in themselves. I loved watching the kinders sing along and dance to the music of this great show! (Sorry for the poor quality of the pics, the lighting was rough!)

And...I had a super cute surprise given to me by a student...she and her mom love crafting as much as I do, and we get to have the results in our classroom! Thanks P for the presents!

What a Punkin!

One of my students and his mom brought this delightfully adorable OWL jack-o-lantern to me yesterday morning! I totally love it! My family doesn't have the patience to carve something this cool, so it was a great gift. It looks terrific in our room! Thanks Punkin!

Monkeying Around

The awesome thing to do these days in kindergarten is to conquer the monkey bars. Those kinderbabies will line up 10 deep to wait for their chance to cross those treacherous bars. At 8 weeks into the school year, several of them have reached their goal, while others still struggle! You would not believe the number of blisters on palms that I see every day from the metal rungs on the good ole' monkey bars...

Almost there!!! Those blisters were so worth it!
