End Of Year Goodies

As all loving teachers do, at the end of the year, I try to get some goodies for my babies to remember me by. This year I had the brilliant idea to burn them a disc of all of the pictures that I have taken throughout the school year. Great idea, right? WRONG! I am just technologically challenged enough that this simple little task has taken me over an hour now...to burn one CD. Never have I ever had to spend that much time burning a disc of pictures! I really hope the remaining 17 don't take so long...

Too Busy for Blogging!

The last month of school has been insanely busy! All teachers certainly know this, and the parents of my kiddos do too! I have lots of things to blog about, but so little time to get it all done...so here is the first of my many missing posts! I will just high-light quickly what you will be seeing and hearing about over the next week, since we will still be in school, making up wild weather days.

Field Trip Shirts

Field trip shirts are in the making! Instead of the traditional (for the last five years, at least) tie-dye, I opted to do something a little different. Check out my original post here, and I hope everyone enjoys their kindergarten shirt!

Meet the Food Groups

Our fantastic PE teacher organized a school-wide health and nutrition week with field day as the culminating event. Classroom teachers were asked to conduct at least a week-long unit focusing on physical health or nutrition. With this in mind, I taught the five senses last week and am teaching the food pyramid this week. Much of my material for this week has come from a really cute website that I found, so be sure to check it out here. It has great FREE reproducibles and interactive tools that work well on a Smartboard, and they are all accessible without a membership (although you do have a membership option). Today, to introduce the food pyramid, I combined a sort page that I already had with the pyramid printable from nourishinteractive to have the students create their own kid-friendly pyramids...involving color, cutting, and sorting! They had fun!!

We Love Reading!

This is similar to the other video I posted of buddy reading, but I just love it when they help each other ro read! These two in particular crack me up when they are working together, because one knows it all already, and the other is a mini-teacher! Quite a combo! Also watch in the background the two who do not want to read together. They would totally rather read on their own!

Seasons of Change

Our class just finished a two-week unit on the four seasons. Since it was standardized testing week, I opted for the class to create the seasons by showing what trees look like as they change with the weather. The class seemed to enjoy it, although it was tedious for them at times. They had to show what the grass and sky looked like for each season, as well as what the trees should look like. This is what they came up with:

Welcome Home Daddy!

The daddy of one of my kiddos was on deployment for the last year. He came home last week, but because it was the week of our statewide standardized testing, the family decided to leave the kids at school and let him surprise them after the test was over for the day. I knew ahead of time that he would be coming as soon as he could get there, so I did my best to make her wonder when she was getting picked up to go see him. I could let you imagine the look on her face when she saw him through the window of the door, but I will let you just see...

Absolute joy! She couldn't talk, other than to say "My Daddy, my Daddy!"  The other kids wanted to know about him and where he had been, and they thought it was amazing that he had been away since she was 4 and now she is 5! She cried and giggled and it was almost like she couldn't decide which she should do so both came out, and honestly, it was all I could do not to cry too!
